I've gotten 40 Shots in the last 2 weeks of Bears, Deer and coyotes(or some kind of cross breeds). Today was exceptional with 22 clips, a half dozen of which I'll put up for now. It's been very difficult because sometimes night cams catch day shots and day cams get night shots so that explains the color of the films. The cougar still evades me but the bears have been fascinating. The young one is growing up and seeming to be on it's own and the adults have been seen grazing and even been seen walking together. One of them appear to be very mature as it has greyish ears and a silver tip back. I've been fortunate to capture a lot of cool stuff lately and we can only hope my luck continues. There's 9 cams running right now and more on the way with the new ones having audio......hmmmm |

Last night we paid a quick visit to a cave half way up the mountain that I discovered 10 years ago. I had never photographed the interior before and thought it would be of some interest. A few shots I've posted on the 1st and last few pages of the gallery if you care to see. At the highest point it is probably 40 ft. and the length end to end must be at least 80 ft. The walls are sold slabs of granite with boulders and fractured pieces for the ceiling. To greet us at the south entrance, was a rather large and seemingly semi-fresh cougar dropping.....nice gesture. At the north end, on a den roof were these two bugs that I can not yet identify(big, bite potential and scary to me). I quickly and cautiously snapped a couple of pics for some one else to figure it out. Elsewhere in the cave there were no bats, no bones and no sign of any human ever being there before(cat probably kept them away). The size of the chamber is pretty amazing but it's not the kind of place I care to hang out very long. Also very near to this opening my friend discovered another dark opening not large enough to access but deep and it was venting very cold air. It was much colder than the outside temperature and the force was enough to move your hair. This too is an anomaly of the mountain. We were pressed for time on this trek as nightfall was coming so we climbed back down the treacherous, thorn infested slope with at least some images in hand. I am considering placing a motion camera up there but the retrieval of images is very difficult and risky to say the least. Plus, monitoring 8 other cameras right now is keeping me busy........so much to do and so much to see..... |

Over the last few weeks I've seen Bears twice and and captured 13 clips at 4 different locations on the mountain. At first it was at the higher elevations but as the berries ripen down below, down come the bears. I believe I have 4 of them. There is the burley old male, the healthy Mama, Sniffy the toddler(nicknamed for sniffing cameras) and a 3 year old who seems to stick to the southside. Salmon berries are ripening and the Blackberries are not far behind. Now at least they have some variety in their diet as it seems grass, greens and grubs have been the spring staple for these rather large omnivors. Hopefully I can stay off the menu and believe me, extra precautions are being taken for the movie retrievals. |
