Three months have passed with 15 storms and counting which dampened my filming this winter. Lenses were fogged up, visibility was poor and the animals appear to have taken shelter for the most part. Other than a few clips of deer and coyotes, not much sign of activity although while the snow was around I saw clear cougar tracks on two sides of the mountain. By one of theses paths I had removed a camera a few days prior. Had I left it there I would have caught the cat strolling 3 feet away. A lesson in patience. On Dec 17th after seeing no signs of the bears in a few weeks, one appeared and tipped over one of the upper cams. Just last week we spotted fresh bear and cat tracks as well as the remains of freshly plucked grouse. So there is some encouraging signs but this process is as challenging as ever but hoping for great new footage as the spring and summer approach. |

Finally after being growled at 10 years ago I've gotten to see who did it.....an elusive cougar. Since the summer of 2006 I've been using mobile motion trail cameras to capture activities of the mountain on short digital clips. My initial goal was to see the cat and satisfy my curiosity but in the process I've got deer, bear, coyotes, chipmunks, a grouse, bugs and now finally the elusive cougar. All of these I might add are being filmed on our own private land without using any bait and having minimal human presence on the mountain. I've been going up frequently to retrieve the images and publish them here. The mountain appears to supply food, shelter and water to an array of critters and is a very healthy and active eco system. It's like having a zoo without fences or people so I thought it should at least be available to view on the web for all who want to see. Enjoy and wish me well in my continuation of this very interesting and challenging project. So who sees who now cougar? We shall all see..............more I sincerely hope. For now check out the videos posted in the gallery to view some of my best. |

It would appear that Mama Bear activivated this cam and her baby was close behind but noticed the L.E.D. flash system and was frightend. After watching the clip another time I realized the cub's eyes were fixed beyond the lens and the cougar comes from behind the cam for a split second for a shot of the top of it's head. These are not the ears of a bear and the elevation would be about 3' off the ground. Any input into this would be appreciated cause if this is what I think it is, it's pretty amazing to get this. Bear/Cat Vid on page one of the gallery. |
