2 and a half months into our usually very wet BC winter and we've had 17 snow days as reported on the news recently. I have not spent much time on the mountain with only 5 cameras running and not easily accessible. But today was my lucky day......I got to see a Bobcat for real. I was almost at the entrnace to my property when I saw something running down the road in front of me and dart off into a small cluster of old growth cedars. I stopped and ran into see what it was and there before me was a beautiful Bobcat. As I approached(20 ft' away) it climbed up the tree and perched itself 15 feet above me. I had only my cell phone and started taking pics then realized I needed more, I called a friend who grabbed my cameras at the house and headed my way. I waited for an hour, keeping an eye on the cat while it lazed above even closing its eyes at times. It was 3 degrees, 6 inches of snow on the ground and I was cold from not moving much. I spoke to it quietly to maintain its attention and when Dereck showed up we filmed a bit with a pocket cam and my video cam. The pocket cam images are on the gallery now and I have to format the other images before uploading. After almost 2 hours of having the cat up the tree and me being so cold I decided to test both me and the cat. I proceeded to climb the tree getting within 8 feet of it directly beneath when it decided it was time to move up. I watched for a few seconds and then I descended back to the safety of the ground. We observed it perched up there for a few moments then headed up the mountain. It was then that we saw fresh Bobcat tracks coming down my trail actually walking in my footsteps. I feel very fortunate for this experience and only wonder what this year will bring in filming on the mountain......we shall see. For easier videos to view go to www.youtube.com/cavemountain
